North Alabama did something breathtaking this spring.
And I had the privilege of being there with a camera when it happened.
Hubert Family Farms in North Alabama became the backdrop for some of the most beautiful family mini sessions I’ve had the honor of photographing — and I want to take a minute to look back at what made these sessions so special, and what’s coming for families who want in next year.
Why Tulip Season in North Alabama Is Unlike Anything Else
There is a very short window — two to three weeks at most — when North Alabama tulip fields are at their absolute peak.
And when the conditions are right, it is stunning.
The color. The texture. The way the blooms move in a Tennessee Valley breeze. The natural variety of a field in full bloom — rows of deep reds, soft pinks, bright yellows — all of it creating a backdrop that no studio, no prop, and no edited background could ever replicate.
When I first started planning golden hour tulip mini sessions at Hubert Family Farms, I knew the location was going to be stunning. What I didn’t fully anticipate was how that combination of blooms, golden Alabama light, and families who showed up ready to simply be present with each other would produce something that genuinely moved me.

Mini sessions can sometimes feel rushed — a quick in and out, a handful of shots, done. These were designed differently.
I planned these sessions with intention. Golden hour timing so the light was working exactly the way I needed it to. Enough time per family to settle in, explore the field, and find the genuine moments rather than just the posed ones. A location that gave us natural variety — rows of color, open sky, soft backgrounds — without ever needing to move far.
Families that came through the Hubert Family Farms tulip sessions left having actually experienced something together — not just checked a photo session off the list. And the galleries reflected that fully.
